Improving English Proficiency

English is its essence is a tool for communication. Nevertheless, Taiwanese society has long valued getting into a great school. Under such context, English is being taught as a “subject,” and students are evaluated by endless tests on their reading and writing skills. The second official language policy encouraged junior high and elementary school teachers to teach at least one period of English class in English only every week. In doing so, students are exposed to an English-speaking environment and get the chance to develop their speaking and listening skills. We believe that by putting a balanced emphasis on the four language skills (reading, writing, listening, and speaking), English is expected to be a daily language rather than simply a subject.
