金牌外語役,前往偏鄉分享國際視野

臺南市政府第二官方語言專案辦公室(簡稱:二官辦)號召來自全臺灣十六名外語替代役,辦理「金牌外語役 前進古都」活動,六月1日起為期三天,將前往偏鄉地區,與學子分享國外求學及生活經驗,將國際視野帶進偏鄉地區,並分享個人學習英語之經驗以及「撇步」,鼓勵學子突破環境以及自我的藩籬,勇敢追夢。

二官辦表示,一般替代役男多被動式的接受工作指派,但是服役於該單位的替代役男吳奕昌Alex非常積極主動,他曾受邀至台東經驗分享,因此主動提案辦理,希望能將寶貴的經驗帶進古都,激發台南子弟自我突破的能量,努力學好語言、擴展國際視野。

本次邀請至台南的外語替代役皆為Alex的同袍,來自基隆、臺北、新竹、臺中、嘉義、高雄、澎湖、臺東、花蓮等11個縣市。來自不同領域的他們臥虎藏龍,跨足工程、經濟、會計、醫學、生物、精算、光電、口譯、電機等各種領域。從活動規劃、拍攝剪輯影片、宣傳照..等等,樣樣自己來。

Alex說同袍很熱血,希望能夠將他們所經歷過的「世界」帶進台南,在役期倒數兩個月的時後為這片島嶼貢獻心力。該活動有來自美國約翰霍普金斯大學的博士分享「會英文就是國際化?」;曾在美國演出舞台劇的華裔演員分享「自信心是陪伴你最好的朋友」,暢談華人演員在美國的心路歷程;還有曾前往非洲留學的留學生分享「原來非洲,一點都不非洲」;創業經驗豐富的台大、歐盟光電碩士分享「創業那些小事」,內容精彩可期!。

SMS Golden Generation - Interpreting the world

The Office of English as the Second Official Language (OESOL) of Tainan City Government recruits 16 substitute military service (SMS) draftees specialized in English to organize “SMS Golden Generation- Interpreting the world”. Lasting from June 1st to June 3rd, passionate draftees will go deep into remote areas of Tainan to share not only their experience in studying and living abroad, but also tips on English-learning to encourage students to bear “sky is the limit” in mind.

Chairperson of OESOL stated that alternative service draftees usually wait to be assigned to tasks; however, Alex Wu, the draftee serving in OESOL stays very proactive. Having been invited to Taitung to share experience in English-learning, now Wu proposed to organize this event in Tainan, where he expected to stimulate high school students to sophisticate English proficiency to broaden their own horizons.

This event gathers SMS draftees from around Taiwan, and all of them are have various expertise including economics, accounting, medical science, biology, actuarial, photo-electricity, civil, and electrical engineering. Most of all, these 16 SMS draftees cover all aspects from activity organization, films shooting and editing, to promotional poster design by themselves.

Alex Wu mentioned that his companions are very enthusiastic. In the last two months of their term in service, they decided to share what they have been through abroad. For example, a draftee with PhD degree of John Hopkins University will elaborate on the topic of “Speaking English = A Global Perspective?”; another draftee will describe how it feels like to a Chinese actor in the US; and another draftee who had studied in South Africa will illustrate what Africa is really like after being there in person. In addition, a draftee well-experienced in starting up new business who holds both NTU and EU MSc degree in photo-electricity will share his knowhow of founding startups. Besides above-mentioned topics, other scheduled speeches are also fascinating and inspiring.
