The World Baseball Softball Confederation U-12 Baseball World Cup is about to start, and the FLOMO Education Foundation has specially sponsored the production of 46,000 World Cup commemorative eco-friendly erasers, which will be presented to the players of the 12 national teams and spectators. The commemorative erasers have covers printed with phrases of encouragement in different languages with the aim of cheering on the players in this competition.

FLOMO Education Foundation Chairperson Flomo Shen says the foundation is a long-time and staunch supporter of Tainan City’s campaign to promote English as the second official language and it approves of the effort the city government has made to promote Tainan’s internationalization. This year, Tainan will host an important international baseball competition. The FLOMO Education Foundation has specially sponsored the production of commemorative erasers to encourage players to continue to improve themselves in both baseball and academics. It hopes all of the teams will perform well during the competition. The erasers will not only be presented to the players, but a limited number will be handed out to spectators at each of the games. There will also be a booth outside one stadium on match days where spectators will be able to take part in interactive, English-language baseball games.

In addition to the commemorative erasers, the city government will also present players with the bilingual Chinese-English picture book “I BA BA I MA – Story of the Baseball Kids and Uncle Snack.” This book tells the story of youth baseball in Tainan, and was jointly created by teachers and students from Shanhua Elementary School. It combines an entertaining story with local culture to narrate the story of how Shanhua Elementary School’s youth baseball team won a world championship.

The Office of English as the Second Official Language (OEASOL) says the students’ drawings are lively and full of sincerity. The book shows the optimistic initiative of children and their indomitable spirits, making it the perfect souvenir for participants in the U-12 Baseball World Cup. The OEASOL helped Shanhua Elementary School to produce a bilingual version of the book, and will continue to promote the book in the future with the objectives of enriching the English-language reading resources of elementary schools and helping both English and baseball to continue to take root in Tainan.

Shanhua Elementary School principal Huang Li-wen says the story was written by the parents of the school’s youth baseball players, and the students drew accompanying pictures that incorporate the local characteristics and religions of the Shanhua area. This picture book tells the history of Shanhua Elementary School’s youth baseball team, and it is hoped it will allow readers to enjoy baseball in another way and cheer on Taiwan’s youth players.

In a speech, Tainan City Government Deputy Secretary-General Liu Shih-chung thanked the FLOMO Education Foundation for its long-term support. He mentioned that the foundation has sponsored numerous baseball English activities this year, including collaborating with the OEASOL to organize English-language promotional activities outside stadiums on match days, sponsoring the production of 46,000 commemorative World Cup eco-friendly erasers, and assisting in the publication of a bilingual picture book. All of these actions have added depth to this grand baseball event. The city government also recognized teachers and students from Shanhua Elementary School for their role in the creation of the bilingual baseball picture book. It hopes this entertaining baseball story full of local flavor will help baseball players from around the world to feel Tainan’s passion and deepen their understanding of the city while helping to promote the city on an international stage.

The city government added it hopes the presentation of these souvenirs will allow all the participants in the competition to feel the support of city residents, and it looks forward to seeing all the players perform well on the field as they seek glory for their countries. Tainan invites baseball fans from around the country to become a part of this international baseball competition and cheer on the Chinese Taipei national team.
