With the advent of Chinese New Year, the 2018 Yuejin Lantern Festival and Yanshui Beehive Rockets Festival are also around the corner! In celebration of these two of Tainan's most famous events, the Office of English as the Second Official Language (OEASOL), Tainan City Government, works jointly with Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology (STUST) to roll out the English-friendly Restaurants in Yanshui bilingual guide pamphlet, hoping to invite more international tourists to attend and enjoy local delicacies to their hearts' content. Apart from a wide array of English-friendly restaurants and bilingual menus, the pamphlet also incorporates a bilingual map of the historical Yanshuei township area, which serves as a handy guide to exploring the abundant cultural and historic treasures around the former Yuejin port.
The annually-held Yanshui Beehive Rockets Festival and Yuejin Lantern Festival are internationally renowned and appealing. In 2015 the Beehive Rockets Festival was ranked by the Australia-based get lost Magazine as the world's top ten best folk festivals, and the only one Asia-based. Also selected were Brazil's Carnival, Spain's Sitges Carnival, and Italy's Carnevale Di Venezia. In order to impress international tourists with Yanshui's rich folk culture and glorious past, a documentary on the history of Yuejin Lantern Festival is also to be launched during the festivals.
“The pamphlet showing English Friendly restaurants in Yanshui is great! Since I can't read Chinese, this helps me to discover a taste of Taiwan that would otherwise be unavailable to me,” said Mr. Caputo, who is from the United States and now living in Tainan.
The English-friendly Restaurants in Yanshui bilingual guide is now available for free access at the offices of international affairs of the following schools: National Cheng Kung University (NCKU), Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology (STUST), and Wenzao Ursuline University of Languages (WUUL).
