The Tainan City Government is now in intense preparation for the opening of the 2018 Tainan English Reading Festival. The organizer of the event, Office of English as the Second Official Language of Tainan City Government (OEASOL), was excited to announce that they have invited kids’ favorite cartoon character, Peppa Pig, and popular YouTubers, Ray Du and Crown Du, to help promote the festival this year. As Peppa Pig and the Dus have significant influence and popularity among young people, OEASOL hopes to create a more passionate English-learning environment with their assistance.
OEASOL distinctively expressed their gratitude to Penguin Random House (abbreviated as PRH in this article) for its support. In 2016 PRH granted the Tainan Reading Festival portrait rights of Peter Rabbit for free, enabling OEASOL to successfully garner attention from children, who were motivated to engage in English-reading activities. This year, it’s Peppa Pig turn to take the lead and throw a wonderful English-learning party with parents and students in Tainan! OEASOL also commissioned Caves Books, one of Taiwan’s most prestigious English bookstores, to help organize festival events.
Ever since the Peppa Pig cartoon series were broadcasted in Taiwan, Peppa has been the biggest rock star among children and therefore an ideal candidate for promoting English learning in the eyes of OEASOL. The organizers of the event expressed that they especially encourage parents of pre-school and elementary school students to utilize online resources such as YouTube and free E-books to make English learning a habit and convenient; OEASOL’s ultimate goal is to make listening to English, learning English, and enjoying English part of citizens’ daily lives. To encourage participation in Peppa’s English Reading Party, OEASOL will publish and distribute 74,000 free “reading passports” with illustrations of Peppa and her family and friends to all elementary schools students in Tainan. In doing so, OEASOL wishes to make every student’s summer break fruitful and fulfilling.
In addition to Peppa Pig, Ray Du and Crown Du, who currently run the biggest English-learning YouTube Channel in Taiwan that has more than 1 million subscribers, will be joining the 2018 Tainan English Reading Festival to share with us the tips to learn English. OEASOL indicated that had it not been Caves Books, whose endorsers happen to be Ray and Crown this year, they would probably never have the opportunity to have the two beloved YouTubers at the Festival.
OEASOL also jokingly urges all citizens to beware of Ray and Crown Du, whom they are likely to spot on streets in the next few weeks. Yes, it’s Ray and Crown and they are here to help you with English! Ray and Crown will be visiting Tainan to film an English-learning video that would give off a “Tainan vibe” very soon. Ray will also give two lectures at Xu Shi Music Library on July 28th. More information about the 2018 Tainan English Festival will be released later, so please stay tuned!
