The “2018 Tainan English Reading Festival” organized by the Tainan City Government’s Office of English as the Second Official Language (OEASOL) is coming to an end. The final events will take place starting on Sunday (Nov. 18) and include “Children’s Theater – STEAM English Experience” and the play “Cleopatra: The Adventure of a Princess,” which will be performed by “ArtSpot Educational Theatre.” All these activities are free, and the OEASOL welcomes parents to bring their children to watch plays and learn English together.
The OEASOL says ways to learn English have become more diverse with the changing of the times, and “plays” are one such way to do so. It therefore organized a series of “Watch Plays, Learn English” activities for the Tainan English Reading Festival, inviting famous international troupe “ArtSpot Educational Theatre” to come to Tainan and stage “Cleopatra: The Adventure of a Princess.” ArtSpot was founded over 20 years ago in 1997, and is invited to perform around the world every year. This year, it returned to Tainan to perform its latest work, an adaptation of the story of famous historical figure and Egyptian queen Cleopatra. The exciting story is paired with the superb acting skills of Broadway-class actors, giving Tainan students the opportunity to experience the charm of “Off-Broadway” for themselves and learn English in a whole new and enjoyable way. “Cleopatra: The Adventure of a Princess” will be performed at Yujing Elementary School at 7:30 p.m. on Nov. 21 (Wednesday) and Sinying Cultural Center at 7:30 p.m. on Dec. 4 (Tuesday). The public will be admitted free of charge, and numbers will be passed out.
Meanwhile, “Children’s Theater – STEAM English Experience” sponsored by Caves Bookstore is set to enrich the Tainan English Reading Festival. The bookstore invited two director-class foreign lecturers, Christopher Beaulieu and Malia’ Kekia Nicolini, to conduct the “Children’s Theater – STEAM English Experience” event on the afternoon of Nov. 18 (Sunday) at Caves Bookstore. The event is one hour long and will be conducted entirely in English. Elementary school students with intermediate English listening and speaking skills are welcome to attend. They should register in advance due to the limited availability of seats. The registration hotline is: 06-2296347 ext. 33.
